Tomb of Prince Le’an

The Tomb of Prince Le’an is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Tomb of Prince Le’an is situated on Longfan Mountain, about 400 meters west of Hualian Village, Wangcheng Town, Xinjian County. Zhu Dianglei, the Prince Zhao Ding of Le’an, was the grandson of Zhu Quan, the Prince Ningxian (the 16th son of Emperor Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang). He was born in the first year of the Ming Xuande era (1426), appointed as a Commandery Prince in the seventh year of the Zhengtong era (1442), and conferred the title of Prince Zhao Ding of Le’an in the third year of the Jingtai era (1452). He passed away due to illness in the first year of the Hongzhi era (1488) at the age of 62 and was buried in Huakeng Mountain, Liukeng Village, Wangcheng Town, Xinjian County. He had ten consorts and fathered eight sons.

The tomb chamber features a beamless arched crypt constructed from plain blue bricks, consisting of a passageway, front chamber, and rear chamber. Between the front and rear chambers are two pairs of pivoting stone doors. The walls on the left, right, and rear of the tomb are equipped with niches, extending from the passageway beneath the retaining wall. The total length of the tomb chamber is 19.83 meters, with the front chamber measuring 3.49 meters wide, 5.77 meters deep, and 3.27 meters high. The rear chamber is 5.35 meters wide, 7.95 meters deep, and 4.13 meters high. The passageway is 2.15 meters wide and 6.11 meters deep, and the total area of the tomb chamber is approximately over 70 square meters.

The tomb was robbed in February 1987. Following salvage excavations, a large number of precious artifacts were unearthed, including gold ornaments, bronze ware, jade artifacts, porcelain, tinware, and painted pottery figurines.
