Top 10 Most Anticipated New Buildings Globally – Taiwan’s Giant Sphere Makes the List

A well-known British architecture magazine has chosen the 10 most anticipated buildings of 2018, featuring unique landmarks from across the globe. Among them, Taipei Performing Arts Center, situated next to Shilin Night Market, is also on the list. Its distinctive giant spherical exterior is one of the first landmarks introduced.

1. Taiwan - Taipei Performing Arts Center
The Taipei Performing Arts Center was designed by a renowned Dutch architect, with the concept inspired by a spicy and mild hotpot combination. The main structure features a huge embedded sphere, and its curtain wall system is made of S-shaped wave glass, giving it a highly unique appearance. The entire building is expected to be completed in October 2018.

Among the 10 most anticipated buildings, three landmarks come from Asia, including Beijing’s Leeza SOHO in China. Designed by the late legendary architect Zaha Hadid, it features the world’s tallest atrium, with the surrounding tower bodies twisted at a 45-degree angle. This “twisted” unique structure is one of the reasons it was selected.

10. South Korea – Seoul Paradise City

Located in Seoul, “Paradise City” was designed by the globally renowned firm MVRDV. It includes a shopping mall and nightclubs, just a 10-minute drive from Incheon Airport. The entrance plaza and exterior walls of the main building are illuminated by a golden halo, creating a striking contrast with the pitch-black interior space.
