Tokyo Disneyland to Open 3 New Themed Areas; 30-Meter 'Beauty and the Beast' Castle Debuts in Japan

Tokyo Disneyland has announced plans to invest 75 billion yen to build three new themed areas within the park, including 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Big Hero 6,' with construction officially breaking ground on the 5th. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2020.

According to Japanese media reports, this is the largest expansion plan since Tokyo Disneyland first opened. The themes for the three new areas have been confirmed: a 'Beauty and the Beast' themed area, a 'Big Hero 6' themed area, and an animation character gallery (name not yet finalized), which will feature new rides and shops offering merchandise of the characters.

Tokyo Disneyland has also revealed some details about the new parks. The most anticipated is the 'Beauty and the Beast' themed area, which will recreate the castle where the Beast lives from the movie, standing approximately 30 meters tall—making it the second castle in the park after Cinderella Castle. In addition, the area will also feature a recreation of Belle’s village and surrounding merchandise shops, along with a ride that allows visitors to step into scenes from the film.

The 'Big Hero 6' themed area will also offer a ride experience, along with a specialty popcorn shop. The new animation character gallery will provide visitors with unique experiences featuring Mickey and Minnie.
