This year marks the 50th anniversary of Singapore’s independence, and many travelers are taking this rare opportunity to visit the Lion City. Beyond the well-known attractions, there are plenty of new highlights this year.CNN has compiled a list of “Singapore’s Five Spectacular New Architectures”—in addition to shopping, you can also admire historically significant structures—don’t miss them if you’re planning to visit soon or in the near future.

1. Marina Bay Sands
After nearly a decade of planning, the highly anticipated Marina Bay Sands integrated resort complex is set to be completed. Located right next to Raffles Hotel, it boasts an exceptional location. The highlight is its wave-shaped canopy, making it a comfortable spot for shopping, dining, and strolling. It is expected to officially open in April 2016.

2. Indian Heritage Centre
Situated in Little India, the building incorporates traditional elements such as a 5-meter-high entrance gate and hand-carved details. It showcases Singapore’s Indian heritage, with a glass-dominated exterior featuring dazzling patterns.

3. Singapore University of Technology and Design
Featuring a rustic and refreshing style, the campus’s biggest highlight is a 400-year-old Ming Dynasty mansion donated by Jackie Chan. The historic house was transported from China as a gift to Singapore.

4. National Gallery Singapore
It houses modern art works from Southeast Asia in the 19th and 20th centuries. From November 24 to December 6, the gallery will offer free admission, along with numerous cultural and artistic events. The opening exhibition, in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou in France, will feature works by Picasso, Kandinsky, and Chagall.

5. The Fullerton Hotel Singapore
Breathtaking new life has been infused into this 1930s-style former theater building, which now features a new shopping area and dining venues.
