Ziqing Mountain

The Ziqing Mountain Scenic Area is located at the western foothills of Hongya Danjing. The area features massive rocks piled upon one another, interlocking and stacked, with caves within caves, streams hanging inside grottoes, cascading waterfalls as curtains, emerald pools, crystal-clear springs, lush pines and white clouds, vines everywhere, forming its serene, precipitous, and uniquely beautiful natural landscape. From a high vantage point, one can enjoy views of distant mountains, countryside valleys, mountain flats and woodlands, urban houses, and even the outlines of rivers—all within sight, bringing a sense of peace and delight. During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the literati Guo Pu and Xu Xun traveled together in the Western Hills. In his immortal wandering poem, Guo Pu wrote the line “Left holding the sleeve of the floating sage, right patting Hongya’s shoulder...” where “the floating sage’s sleeve” refers to the reclining Buddha of Sakyamuni on Ziqing Mountain.

The Daoist text “Yunji Qi Qian” refers to Meiling as the “Twelfth Grotto-Heaven” and the “Twenty Blessings Land,” showing how prevalent Daoism was in the Meiling area at the time. The original Ziqing Palace within the scenic area was one of the “Seven Major Public Temples” of Meiling, ranking second only to the Yulong Wanshou Palace in the Western Hills. Since the late Western Han Dynasty, notable figures such as Guo Pu, Xu Xun, Ouyang Xiu, Zeng Gong, Huang Tingjian, Yue Fei, and Liu Yan have visited and composed poetry here. Additionally, recluses and scholars from various dynasties—including the Tang Dynasty’s hermit Zhang Yun, the late Yuan and early Ming figure Chen Youliang, and the Qing Dynasty’s Grand Secretary Xu Huiyuan—came here to cultivate themselves and live in seclusion, leaving behind many legends.

Meiling Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Wanli District, Nanchang City. It is one of the city’s suburban tourist and summer resort destinations. Established as Meiling Commune in 1958, it was renamed Meiling Township in 1984 and upgraded to Meiling Town in 1987. The town government is located on Dianqian Street. Situated in the northern part of the district, within the Meiling National Forest Park, it is 4.5 kilometers from the district center. Covering an area of 67 square kilometers with a population of 13,000, it is traversed by the Shengzhuang–Dianqian Highway. The town administers the Dianqian Street Neighborhood Committee and seven village committees: Meiling, Qianjin, Lixin, Dongchang, Tuanjie, Yuanjia, and Fengjing.
