The China Ancient Sea Health Tourism Resort is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Ancient Sea is located in Zhangshu, an ancient city in Jiangxi Province known as China’s “Medicine Capital,” “Salt Capital,” and “Liquor Capital,” and is about 4 kilometers from downtown Zhangshu. Approximately 145 million years ago, Jiangxi was once a shallow sea area. Tectonic movements uplifted certain land blocks, forming high mountains and deep basins, with Zhangshu situated right at the center of the basin. As a result, the remaining seawater in the vicinity continuously migrated and accumulated in this deep depression. Over time, under the influence of prolonged dry climatic conditions, a sedimentary salt deposit formed. Later, another tectonic shift dramatically transformed the region, burying this enormous sedimentary salt deposit a kilometer underground, forming a rock salt mine with reserves of 10.3 billion tons and concentrating brine essence rich in numerous minerals and trace elements.

The essence of the brine, refined through hundreds of millions of years of accumulation, offers extraordinary benefits for human health. Scientific tests show that the sodium chloride content in the brine is around 28%, the optimal ratio for salt flotation, allowing the human body to float effortlessly. The brine is also rich in over 40 types of minerals and trace elements—including sodium, potassium, calcium, bromine, and iodine—at levels more than five times higher than those found in top-tier hot springs. The China Ancient Sea Health Tourism Resort project was developed with an investment of 3.165 billion yuan by Yida (Fujian) Tourism Group Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Fujian Xinhengji Group.

The resort is located beside Gexuan Road in the southern suburbs of Zhangshu City, Jiangxi Province, about 4 kilometers from the city center. The project primarily utilizes Zhangshu’s unique rock salt resources (with wellhead temperatures reaching 40°C and a salt content exceeding 25%, capable of freely floating the human body), integrating wellness resources related to medicine, liquor, and Taoism. It adopts the concept of creating tourism with salt and promoting wellness through salt. The development is carried out in three phases simultaneously, constructing five major scenic areas: the Ancient Sea Health Tourism Area, the Aromatic Plant Health Resort Area, the Medicine Capital Health Culture Exhibition Center, the International Health Sports and Leisure Area, and the World Health Culture Experience Area. The goal is to build a comprehensive health tourism project integrating Ancient Sea wellness, plant-based wellness, cultural wellness, and physical fitness wellness, aligning with the strong modern demand for health-oriented tourism and vacation products.

The first phase of the Ancient Sea Health Tourism Area focuses on creating 12 dreamy blue-sea attractions: the Wellness Hall, Love of the Ocean, Tai Chi Salt Mud Hall, Salt Crystal Dynamic SPA, 3D Floating Cinema, Salt Cube, Jade Salt Kang, Song of Youth, Water Park, Catering and Conference Center, Boutique Hotel, and Fragrant Spring Palace. The scenic area officially opened on New Year’s Day 2014.
