Qingbiao Tongguan Stone Archway

The Qingbiao Tongguan Stone Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Qingbiao Tongguan Stone Archway is located on the north side of Duishang Village, Dianxia Town, about 16 kilometers southeast of Zhangshu City. This stone archway was erected in the fourth year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1854) by Huang Diheng, a government student, in compliance with an imperial decree to honor his mother, Li Shi, the wife of the scholar Huang Shishu. The archway is of a four-pillar, three-bay style, standing 8.3 meters high and 8 meters wide, and is entirely constructed from bluestone. It comprises a rectangular base stone, square pillars, brace stones, upper and lower lintels, flat panels, carved stone reliefs of figures, and bracket sets. On its southern face, the lower section reads “Tribute to the Filial and Chaste Scholar Huang Shishu’s Wife Li”; the middle two square pillars bear inscriptions on their right and left sides — the right reads “A wild goose’s vow guards the deep boudoir, her lonely dedication and bitter devotion deserve praise for virtue,” and the left reads “Imperial grace descends upon the village, her clear integrity and noble character forever inscribed in stone”; the side pillars further bear inscriptions — the right reads “The land connects to Song Mountain, nurturing her true nature,” and the left reads “The clear morning opens the ridge, revealing her genuine conduct.” On its northern face, the top reads “Imperial Favor”; the center reads “Moon Heart at Heaven’s Center”; the bottom reads “Tribute to the Filial and Chaste Government Student Huang Shiheng’s Mother Li”; the middle two square pillars bear inscriptions — the right reads “A piece of ice-pure firmness, enduring wind and frost with steadfastness,” and the left reads “A thousand autumns of stone standing, its name fragrant far and near”; the side pillars further bear inscriptions — the right reads “The well water is calm, its clarity to the bottom,” and the left reads “The pine forest stands firm against the cold, its integrity even stronger.” In July 2000, the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province announced the “Qingbiao Tongguan Archway” as a fourth batch provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.

The Beijing-Kowloon Railway and National Highway 105, along with Zhang-Dian Road, run through the town, while crisscrossing cement roads within the area form a fast and smooth transportation network. Dianxia Town covers a total area of 140 square kilometers, with a population of 19,000, including 17,000 agricultural residents. The arable land area is 31,000 mu, and forested land spans 90,000 mu, with a forest coverage rate of over 65%, ranking first among all towns in Zhangshu City.
