Former Residence of Mao Zedong on Xinjie Street

The Former Residence of Mao Zedong in Zhangshu is located at No. 37, Xinjie Street, in downtown Zhangshu. The residence is an old-style civilian house featuring an eight-character gate, covering an area of 192 square meters. It consists of six rooms enclosed by firewalls on all sides, standing 6 meters high. On July 24, 1930, Mao Zedong, Zhu De, and other veteran proletarian revolutionaries led the First Red Army Corps to Zhangshu. Mao once stayed here and presided over a meeting with military leaders, during which key strategic decisions were made — such as “not launching a rash attack on Nanchang” and “crossing the Gan River westward.” The site has now been renovated by cultural authorities and opened to the public, displaying scenes from Mao’s time in Zhangshu through photos, texts, and physical exhibits.
