Tomb Cluster of Wu Ping

The Tomb Cluster of Wu Ping is located on Jiuzi Ke Mountain, about 1,000 meters south of Menlouli Village (the former site of Wu Ping Ancient City) in Zhongzhou Township, 55 kilometers southwest of Zhangshu City, Jiangxi Province.

This tomb cluster was discovered and surveyed in 1975 by the Zhangshu City Museum. Nearly a hundred ancient tombs are scattered across the mountain, with mound heights ranging from 4 to 7 meters, covering a distribution area of 15,000 square meters. In 1976 and 1980, four tombs were excavated. All are rectangular vertical pit graves, yielding burial objects such as pottery and proto-porcelain tripods, boxes, jars, pots, bowls, and iron knives. These findings align with historical records, confirming that the site served as the burial ground for the ancient Wu Ping County. It holds significant scientific value for the study of Zhangshu City’s politics, economy, and culture from the Han to the Sui dynasties.

Zhongzhou Township: Located in the southwestern part of Zhangshu City, Zhongzhou Township borders Yicheng Township to the north, Luofang Town of Xinyu City to the south, Huangtushangang Railway Forest Farm to the east, and Beigang Town of Xinyu City to the west. The area is crisscrossed by the Tieyi Highway, Zhongbei Highway, and various village roads, with the Shanghai-Ruijiang Expressway passing through. The terrain is mainly hilly, with a total land area of 56.3 square kilometers. The township has 21,105 mu of arable land, including 20,040 mu of paddy fields and 1,065 mu of dry land, as well as 8,790 mu of forested land and 2,895 mu of water surfaces.
