The Peng Ancestral Hall at the Front of the Pagoda

The Peng Ancestral Hall at the Front of the Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The traditional Peng family village at the Front of the Pagoda belongs to Liugongmiao Town, Zhangshu City, located south of Liugongmiao Town and west of Zhangshu City. The ancestral hall’s gatehouse was built in the second year of the Jiaqing reign during the Qing Dynasty, and construction of the main ancestral hall began in the first year of the Daoguang reign, with inscriptions on steles recording the construction. The village is just 10 kilometers from Linjiang Prefecture, the political center of the middle reaches of the Gan River during the Ming and Qing periods, and lies at the core of the historical origin area of the Linqing Merchant Group. This is a single-surname Peng village, and most of the preserved ancient buildings were constructed by Peng clan members who were part of the Linqing Merchant Group.

The ancestral hall is fronted by three gatehouses—left, center, and right. The central gatehouse was built in the 25th year of the Jiaqing reign, while the left and right secondary gatehouses were constructed in the second year of the Jiaqing reign. The main body of the ancestral hall was built in the first year of the Daoguang reign, and the entire structure is surrounded by surrounding gatehouse walls (fortified walls). In addition to the main ancestral hall of the Peng clan, there are five branches of the Peng family, each with its own sub-lineage ancestral hall. Due to years of neglect, the ancestral hall of the second branch has been destroyed, leaving only the ancestral hall of the third branch still preserved.

Liugongmiao Town: Liugongmiao Town is located in the northwest of Zhangshu City, bordering Gao’an City, covering an area of 84 square kilometers. It governs 14 administrative villages and 167 village groups, with a total population of 18,910, including 17,010 agricultural residents, and cultivated land area of 43,815 mu. The town enjoys convenient transportation and significant locational advantages, with the Ganzhou–Guangdong Expressway running north–south and featuring an exit, while Provincial Highway Zhanggao runs east–west. Large enterprises such as the Jiangxi Ganzhou–Guangdong Expressway Maintenance Engineering Co., Ltd. and Jiangxi Shunyu Industrial Co., Ltd. have already settled in the area.
