The Baiyun Peak Drifting Scenic Area in Shanggao County is located in the southern part of Nangang Town, Shanggao County, bordering Yushui District of Xinyu City and Fen Yi County. With an elevation of 1,004 meters, it is known as the “Roof of Shanggao.” From the summit of Baiyun Peak, you can enjoy views of five counties — Yushui District of Xinyu, Fen Yi, Gao’an, Yifeng, and Shanggao. The Baiyun Peak Grand Canyon is long and shaded, enveloped in mist, with lush forests, tall bamboo, peculiar rocks standing upright, cascading waterfalls, clear pools, birdsong, and floral fragrance — entering this area feels like stepping into a fairyland. These abundant natural resources provide the “hard power” for developing the premier three-dimensional drifting experience in southern China. Meanwhile, the ancient silver mine site at Mengshan Mountain, which has a rich history and was mined through the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties for over 160 years starting from the Southern Song Dynasty, is hailed as the “No. 1 in Asia and No. 3 in the world.” Other cultural sites include the Shengji Temple built in the Tang Dynasty, the Zhengde Academy built in the Yuan Dynasty and renowned across southern China, the Tianzhu Hall built in the Song Dynasty and hidden within the Baiyun Peak Grand Canyon, as well as legendary spots such as Taizi Wall, Xiangu Zhai, Jinzi Tou, and Sangzi Yuan. These sites, with their long histories and rich cultural heritage, offer the “soft power” for developing drifting in the Baiyun Peak Grand Canyon.

The Baiyun Peak Grand Canyon Drifting Scenic Area enjoys a superior geographical location, with the “Shangfen Highway,” “National Highway 320,” and “Wuji Expressway” passing through the area. The drifting center is 25 kilometers from the county seat, 110 kilometers from the provincial capital Nanchang, 100 kilometers from Yichun, 50 kilometers from Xinyu City, and 30 kilometers from Fen Yi County. To the east, it connects to Gao’an and Xinyu; to the west, to Fen Yi, Yichun, and Pingxiang; and to the north, to Shanggao, Yifeng, Tonggu, and Hunan. The drifting course is 3.6 kilometers long, with a total drop of 299 meters, the longest slide exceeding 80 meters, and the highest single drop reaching 22 meters. There are 56 thrilling high-drop slides. The riverbanks are lined with towering peculiar rocks, graceful bamboo, and rustling pine trees, while the drifting water remains unpolluted, pure as spring water, and crystal clear. Within the canyon, trees slant over the cliffs, and cool breezes brush your face, immersing you in the poetic beauty of “floating in the water while mountains flow like a painting.”

Nangang Town: Nangang Town is located in the southern part of Shanggao County. It borders Yushui District of Xinyu and Fen Yi County. The provincial Shangfen Highway and Wuji Expressway run through the town. The town covers a total area of 117.3 square kilometers, governing one state-owned forest farm, nine administrative villages, and one directly managed team. The total population is 17,806, with 4,818 households, and the arable land area is 19,650 mu, including 11,910 mu of paddy fields and 7,740 mu of dry land.
