Yunnan coffee is commonly referred to as Yunnan small-grain on the market, and the name mainly originates from the Arabica variety — the Arabica is the species with the highest commercial value and best flavor among all coffee varieties in the world.

70% of China’s coffee-growing regions are located in Yunnan, and Yunnan’s annual production accounts for 83% of the national total. The history of coffee cultivation in Yunnan dates back to 1892. It is generally believed that a French missionary brought coffee seeds from Vietnam to Yunnan and successfully planted them in Zhukula Village, a valley in Binchuan County, Dali, Yunnan.

Yunnan has superior geographical and climatic conditions for growing coffee. The province lies between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, which is globally recognized as the “golden belt” for coffee cultivation. There are four main coffee-growing regions in Yunnan: Baoshan, Pu’er, Dehong, and Lincang. Among them, Baoshan small-grain coffee is not only a specialty of Luxi in Baoshan but also has been listed as a National Geographical Indication Product. In recent years, it has gained significant fame.

The small-grain coffee cultivated in Baoshan, Yunnan, is renowned both at home and abroad for being rich without bitterness, fragrant without being overpowering, with small and evenly sized beans, full-bodied aroma, and fruity undertones. It is a specialty of Luxi in Baoshan, Yunnan, and a China National Geographical Indication Product. Tasting experts from the International Coffee Organization have rated Yunnan coffee as being in the same class as wet-processed small-grain Arabica coffee from Colombia — making it some of the highest-quality coffee in the world.
