So, what good coffee beans come from Yunnan? Today, we’re taking a look at a Yunnan Baoshan coffee bean — Huaguoshan.

The main coffee-growing region in China is Yunnan, where coffee cultivation covers 70% of the nation’s total area and production accounts for 83%. Among Front Street Coffee’s offerings is a bean that represents the fundamental flavor profile of Yunnan coffee — Yunnan Huaguoshan Coffee.

The western and southern parts of Yunnan Province lie between 15°N and the Tropic of Cancer, with most areas situated at elevations of 1,000 to 2,000 meters. The terrain is predominantly mountainous and hilly, featuring significant undulation, fertile soil, abundant sunlight, ample rainfall, and large diurnal temperature variations. Yunnan’s geographical and climatic conditions are highly favorable, providing excellent growing conditions for coffee.

The Yunnan Huaguoshan coffee variety is Typica, a classic high-quality coffee bean that undergoes the washed processing method. Washed beans exhibit distinct fruity acidity, slightly greater complexity, and a cleaner profile. Front Street’s cupping notes describe its flavor as starting with a light citrusy acidity, dominated by nutty notes, followed by melon and fruit aromas with brown sugar sweetness, and a finish that carries a hint of black tea undertone. The overall flavor profile is quite layered and rich.
