In five and a half days, they cycled over 700 kilometers at a cost of about 5,000 yuan to complete a trip around Hainan Island. This was the adventure recently undertaken by Huang Dong and three friends from Liushi Town, Yueqing City, who specifically flew to Hainan with their bicycles.
Huang Dong is a cycling enthusiast. In mid-November last year, he posted an invitation in a cycling group hoping to find companions to cycle around Hainan together, quickly receiving responses from three friends. On December 17, they set off from Wenzhou with their respective bikes and flew to Hainan.
After arriving at Haikou Meilan International Airport, they cycled to Wanning City. They rode for one hour, took a 5-minute break, and covered about 150 kilometers per day, reaching their destination in the evening. Mr. Huang said they had previously developed a “cycling route plan,” mostly following the course of the 2011 Tour of Hainan international road cycling race.
Subsequently, they cycled through Wanning City, Sanya City, Danzhou City, and Lingao County, returning to Haikou Meilan International Airport on the sixth day and flying back to Wenzhou. Mr. Huang said that apart from eating at small food stalls and staying in small hotels in Haikou and Sanya, their total personal expenses were about 5,000 yuan, with airfare accounting for half. The main goal of this cycling trip was to challenge themselves.
It is understood that nowadays, in our city, there are more and more people like Mr. Huang who enjoy long-distance exercise. Last June, a citizen cycled from Mohe in Heilongjiang to Wenzhou; in the same month, Mr. Wu, another citizen, flew with his bicycle from Guangzhou to Chengdu and spent 29 days cycling from Chengdu to Lhasa; last July, Mr. Wang and a group of more than 20 friends went to Qinghai to cycle around Qinghai Lake.
Regarding this, Chen Yuexi, president of the City Bicycle Association, said that as people's living standards improve, there is a growing emphasis on health. There may be two main reasons why people enjoy long-distance outdoor sports: one is that everyone has been living in Wenzhou and wants to explore new and exciting places; the other is to enhance physical fitness.
