Site of the Mengshan Silver Mine

The Site of the Mengshan Silver Mine is located on Mengshan Mountain, 30 kilometers south of Shanggao County, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, China. It is a silver mine site dating back to the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties. In May 2013, it was designated by the State Council as part of the seventh group of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.

The ancient Mengshan silver mine site flourished in the sixth year of the Qingyuan era during the Southern Song Dynasty and ceased operations in the 23rd year of the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty. Spanning the Song, Yuan, and Ming dynasties, it was in operation for over 160 years, making it more than 800 years old. The site is primarily distributed within a 5-kilometer radius of Taizibei Peak on Mengshan Mountain in Shanggao County. To date, over 20 ancient silver mine shafts, one silver smelting site, one ruins of the Mengshan Silver Mine Administration Office, one renowned ancient academy known as "Zhengde Academy," and one Buddhist temple—the "Shengji Temple," which is the birthplace of the "Shengji Sect"—have been discovered. It is currently one of the largest and best-preserved ancient silver mine sites found in China, holding significant historical, cultural, and tourism development value.
