The Qipanshan Guerrilla Base was one of the former revolutionary bases in the Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet Area, a county-level key cultural relics protection unit, and a patriotism education base. It is located 4.5 kilometers northwest of Shenquan Township, Lianhua County, Jiangxi Province, and 15 kilometers from the county seat. It can be directly accessed by turning onto a rural road from National Highway 319. The mountain peak stands at an elevation of 886 meters, with well-preserved vegetation. The area, covering approximately 660.7 hectares of fir and bamboo forests, serves as a natural green barrier. On June 12, 1935, Chen Hongshi, the former Secretary of the Hunan-Jiangxi Provincial Committee, defected to the enemy in Pingxiang, guiding them in “cleansing” and searching the mountains, which severely damaged the party organization and led to the tragic killing of a large number of revolutionary comrades. Coupled with a severe shortage of ammunition, food, and clothing, the armed struggle in the Hunan-Jiangxi border region reached a desperate situation. At this critical juncture, Tan Yubao, the former head of the Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet Government, stepped forward and presided over an important military meeting on Qipanshan in early July. The meeting criticized the treason of Chen Hongshi, Liu Fayun, and others, analyzed the situation of the border struggle, and formulated the strategic guideline of “preserving strength, developing steadily, and waiting for the right opportunity.” It was decided to dissolve the former provincial Soviet government and military district, re-establish the Provisional Hunan-Jiangxi Provincial Committee and the Military-Political Committee, form the Headquarters of the Hunan-Jiangxi Guerrilla Detachment, and elect Tan Yubao, Zeng Kaifu, Tan Tangchi, Yan Fuhua, Duan Huanjing, Wang Yongji, Zhou Jie, and Chen Zhenyuan as members of the Provincial Committee Standing Committee. Tan Yubao was appointed as the Secretary of the Provisional Hunan-Jiangxi Provincial Committee, Chairman of the Military-Political Committee, and Political Commissar of the Guerrilla Detachment Headquarters. Zeng Kaifu served as the Commander of the Guerrilla Detachment, Duan Huanjing as the Chief of Staff, leading three battalions. Relying on the complex terrain of Qipanshan, the Hunan-Jiangxi Guerrilla Team engaged in arduous guerrilla warfare against the enemy, ensuring the continuation of the revolutionary flame in the Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet Area. This meeting marked a pivotal turning point in the three-year guerrilla war along the Hunan-Jiangxi border. In 1936, Chen Yi, commissioned by the Central Committee, traveled from Ji’an to Yongxin and other areas to locate the Hunan-Jiangxi Guerrilla Team and discuss reorganization. In November 1937, over 300 members of the Hunan-Jiangxi Guerrilla Team gathered in Longshang Village for reorganization. During the process, leaders such as Chen Yi, Xiang Ying, and Zeng Shan visited the guerrilla team in Longshang Village to encourage the soldiers to uphold their fighting spirit and make new contributions in the War of Resistance against Japan. In February 1938, the reorganized guerrilla team set out from Qipanshan to Kaihua, Zhejiang, where it was restructured into the 1st Battalion of the 2nd Regiment of the 1st Detachment of the New Fourth Army and joined the fight against Japanese aggression. Additionally, the Qipanshan area boasts unique natural scenery, pristine ecology, numerous waterfalls, and towering ancient trees, combining natural landscapes with red culture.
