Don’t miss this chance to admire the lotuses in Baihe, Tainan. Baihe District in Tainan City has the largest lotus cultivation area in Taiwan and is known as the “Lotus Village.” This year, through the joint efforts of the city government team and local lotus farmers, the lotus field area has expanded to over 350 hectares. In conjunction with the event, a Lotus Avenue has been set up to create a stunning sea of flowers.

To promote low-carbon tourism, Tainan Mayor Lai Qingde arrived at the opening press conference by a special lotus-viewing bus, encouraging visitors to use public transportation to explore Baihe and enjoy its magnificent scenery. This initiative aims to advocate for eco-friendly tourism practices, reduce environmental impact, and ensure the sustainable preservation of Baihe’s tourism resources. At the Lotus Avenue, Mayor Lai also officially launched the 2014 Baihe Lotus Season, announcing the start of the event nationwide. Additionally, the mayor named the lotus baby and lotus seed pod baby mascots painted by the “National Taiwan University of Arts Tainan Alumni Association,” adding a delightful touch to the event.

Besides admiring the beautiful lotuses, the lotus-themed cuisine in Baihe is a must-try delicacy for visitors. The district office also showcased popular lotus seed dishes at the press conference. Local businesses in Baihe have even developed a variety of creative lotus seed products to tantalize your taste buds, such as lotus root rice, lotus seed desserts, and more. Not only do these dishes offer the charm of sticky rice flavors, but they also reflect the unique culinary culture of southern Taiwan. Visitors are encouraged to try these authentic local treats. In addition, the scenic lotus fields provide great opportunities for photography.

The 2014 “Love Baihe Lotus Season” runs for eight consecutive weeks from May 22 to July 13, with exciting activities every week for the public to enjoy. These include weekend farmers' markets, rural regeneration community agricultural product exhibitions, artwork displays by local Baihe artist “Flower Granny,” children’s painted mailbox installation art, and various other dynamic and static events. As 2014 marks the “Year of Love” (2014 sounds like “love you forever” in Chinese), the event organizer, Baihe District Office, has created a sweet and joyful atmosphere to celebrate love and happiness. Large lotus and lotus seed pod baby mascot installations have been set up to welcome visitors and create memorable moments, allowing everyone to soak in the blissful ambiance of the Baihe Lotus Season. Moreover, with the participation of nine rural regeneration communities in Baihe District — including Dazhu, Liuxi, Ganzhai, Linzinei, Zhumen, Caodian, Zha’an, Hushan, and Nanliao — the event offers even more diverse features. Visitors are welcome to explore each community to experience local agricultural life and culture.
