The Crescent Moon Bridge, which opened on May 17, 2014, had already garnered significant attention even before its official completion at the end of April. Centered around revitalizing the riverside parks on both sides of the Tamsui River in New Taipei City, a series of policies were conceived, such as elevated floodwall crossings, building pedestrian and bicycle-only recreational landscape bridges, beautifying the river embankments, developing the Blue Highway, and creating themed water-friendly parks. These efforts aim to transform the riverside parks into an ideal leisure and sports destination for residents, positioning New Taipei City as a “Four Waters City” — focusing on water management, water intimacy, clean water, and permeable water — achieving the vision of a “City of Great Rivers” and realizing the goal of making the Tamsui River the “Manhattan of the East.”

The location of the Crescent Moon Bridge is about 500 meters upstream from the Xin-Hai Bridge, connecting Banqiao’s 435 Art and Cultural Special Zone with Xinzhuang Old Street at either end. The bridge features an “asymmetrical double-steel tied arch design,” with a total length of 750 meters. The two spans measure 200 meters and 100 meters respectively, while the arches stand 50 meters and 25 meters high, making it the longest double-span steel arch bridge in Taiwan. The asymmetrical double-steel tied arch and cable combination create a dynamic, mountain-and-water-inspired, vibrant visual effect. The bridge includes four uniquely themed viewing and resting platforms (including: Curve of Art, Shadow of Light, Dance of Water, and Rhythm of Wind), and the Dance of Water platform, which spans the main river channel, features a transparent glass walkway skybridge to allow visitors to experience the joy of dancing water reflections. The nighttime light show, themed “Rhythm of Light,” uses lighting to highlight the graceful curves of the arches and projects highlights onto the water’s edge to extend the overall landscape bridge’s flowing mountain-water imagery. The visual effects are stunning, earning praise from both drivers passing by and pedestrians out for strolls. It not only beautifies the night scenery along the Da-Han River but also establishes the Crescent Moon Bridge as a new landmark for Banqiao and Xinzhuang.

Banqiao: Access the Crescent Moon Bridge via the Shehou Flood Control Road Bridge next to the 435 Art and Cultural Special Zone.
Xinzhuang: Enter the bridge via the access road next to Bi-Jiang Street (Guan-Yuan Canal Pumping Station) or use the riverbank road No. 17 overpass to reach the outer dike road.
Follow the outer dike road to arrive at the bridge.
