Peach Blossom Lotus Festival Postponed; Spectacular "Lotus" Events to Resume Next Weekend

The annual "Lotus" event, the "2013 Taoyuan Lotus Festival," had been held on weekends over two consecutive months during the summer vacation at various farms in Guanyin and Xinyi. However, this weekend (the 13th and 14th) has been disrupted by Typhoon Soudelor, leading to a one-week suspension of activities. The "lotus" spectacle will reignite next Saturday (the 20th).

The theme of this year’s Taoyuan Lotus Festival is "Joyful Lotus Charm in Taoyuan." The Taoyuan County Agriculture Bureau stated that this year’s festival specially integrates farms and restaurants in Guanyin Township, and utilizes locally sourced Taoyuan ingredients to offer 13 delicious lotus-themed dishes. Ingredients include lotus seeds, lotus flowers, lotus roots, lotus leaves, and lotus stems—all used in the lotus cuisine. Reservations for dining and tasting are available from July 14 to September 30, with a three-day advance booking required. Each table costs 4,000 NTD, and there’s a 10% discount for non-holiday bookings.

The Lotus Festival activities are spread across 11 hectares of farmland around Guanyin Township, where different varieties of lotuses—including giant Victoria water lilies, water lilies, and dahurian lotuses—are planted in designated zones, offering visitors a visual feast of blooming lotuses onsite.

To facilitate public enjoyment of the lotuses, shuttle buses will be available every Saturday and Sunday during the event period from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM, departing every half hour from the Guanyin Farmers’ Association.
