Huatang Official Hall

Huatang Official Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Pingxiang City.

Huatang Official Hall was originally one of the revolutionary bases in the Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet Area and is now a key cultural relic protection unit of Pingxiang City. It is located in Huatang Village, Qinting Town, Pingxiang County, Jiangxi Province, about 1 kilometer from the county town and can be directly accessed along Yong’an Street in the county. Originally the private residence of Zhu Yifan and his brothers—who served as Chinese language tutors to Emperor Xuantong of the Qing Dynasty and were once honored with the title of “Junior Guardian of the Heir Apparent”—the hall covers an area of more than 3,000 square meters. Built in the style of a traditional southern ancestral hall, it features a brick-and-wood structure, boasts a grand scale, and showcases exquisite craftsmanship. From the end of 1930 to 1931, it served as the base for the Southeast Hunan Special Committee and the Southeast Hunan Soviet Government. In 1931, it was also used as the site of the Lenin School. From October 8 to 15, 1931, the First Congress of Representatives of the Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet was held in the hall, officially establishing the Hunan-Jiangxi Provincial Committee. From October 17 to 25 of the same year, the First Congress of Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers of the Hunan-Jiangxi Soviet was also convened here, officially founding the Hunan-Jiangxi Provincial Soviet Government. A large number of high-ranking generals of New China—including Peng Dehuai, Xiao Ke, Wang Shoudao, Chen Yi, Xiang Ying, and Zeng Shan—fought and lived in Huatang Official Hall. In September 1932, the Fifth Congress of the County Party was held in the hall. After the liberation, it has continuously served as a teaching ground for Huatang Primary School and as a base for revolutionary tradition education. In 1984, it was listed as a county-level cultural relic protection unit.
