The Former Residence of Mao Zedong at Binxing Guildhall is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Introduction to Binxing Guildhall (Former Residence of Mao Zedong)

The former residence of Mao Zedong is located at No. 148 Jiefang Street, Lianhua County. Originally known as "Binxing Guildhall," it was first built in the fifth year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty as a cultural and educational facility of Lianhua Subprefecture. It served as a revolutionary activity site during the First and Second Revolutionary Civil Wars and was renovated in 1968.

On September 25, 1927, after Mao Zedong led the Autumn Harvest Uprising troops to capture Lianhua County, the Front Committee and division headquarters were stationed at Binxing Guildhall. Mao Zedong stayed there and convened a Front Committee meeting, deciding to redirect the Autumn Harvest Uprising troops toward Jinggangshan. This decision marked the great beginning of the Chinese Communist Party shifting its focus from cities to rural areas. During the revolutionary war period, the story of "One Rifle of Lianhua" became widely known. To commemorate this glorious history and honor the revolutionary martyrs, in 1968, with approval from the Provincial Department of Culture, the One Rifle of Lianhua Memorial Hall was established at Binxing Guildhall. It is now a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit and a provincial patriotic education base.

In 2009, our county selected a site behind the former residence of Mao Zedong to build a new One Rifle of Lianhua Memorial Hall. In October 2011, the county Party committee and county government launched an environmental improvement project around the former residence of Mao Zedong, investing 8 million yuan to construct a 300-meter-long antique-style wall, build a 280-meter-long 4A-level scenic area road, and develop a tourist reception center, parking lot, and antique-style street. In 2012, the new exhibition layout of the One Rifle of Lianhua Memorial Hall was implemented. The new hall has an exhibition area of about 1,200 square meters, divided into two floors. The first floor features a special exhibition on the One Rifle of Lianhua, divided into four units: the origin of the rifle, the preservation of the rifle, the battles involving the rifle, and the development of the rifle. The second floor serves as an auxiliary exhibition introducing the exemplary deeds of General Farmer Gan Zuchang, comprising four parts and fifteen units: Pioneer Soldier under Jinggangshan, Logistics Minister on the Gobi Desert, General Farmer on the Red Land, and Shining Stars over Lianhua. In 2013, Binxing Guildhall presented an exhibition layout on the 20 Days of the Autumn Harvest Uprising, authentically recreating the daily military logs of those 20 days. As the historical endpoint of the Autumn Harvest Uprising and the starting point of the revolutionary history of Jinggangshan, Lianhua holds milestone significance in China’s revolution.
