HuiLan Temple in Shicheng County

HuiLan Temple was first built during the Ming Dynasty and has long been a place of worship for local Buddhist devotees, enjoying flourishing incense offerings. It was once destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.

In 1984, with the fundraising efforts of Wen Maosheng and other devotees from all walks of life, the temple halls were rebuilt and Buddha statues were erected. In 1997, Venerable Zhao Pin, the then abbot of HuiLan Temple (currently residing at Tung Po Toi Monastery in Hong Kong), initiated the fundraising of 320,000 yuan to rebuild the Mahavira Hall. This is a traditional Chinese-style building with double eaves and upturned corners. The hall houses three precious Buddha statues and the Eighteen Arhats, all exquisitely crafted golden figures that are lifelike and radiant. Devotees continue to visit the temple year-round. The temple has over 20 resident monks and nuns who practice diligently and enjoy a good reputation. The temple also has a management committee. In 1982, when the county Buddhist association was established, its headquarters were located here. In 1992, a complete set of the Tripitaka was brought from Taiwan, and every year, worshippers from Fujian, Ninghua, Hong Kong, and other regions come here in an endless stream to chant scriptures and pray.
