Miyagi Prefecture Opens "Information Dispatch Office" in Taiwan, Aiming for 3x Growth in Taiwanese Visitors

To enhance tourism promotion, educational travel, information dissemination, and travel product planning in Taiwan, Miyagi Prefecture officially established its Taiwan Promotion Office under "Nichiyo International Business Co., Ltd." starting July 1, 2016, actively fostering exchanges between Taiwan and Miyagi Prefecture, with the goal of tripling current tourist numbers in the future.

Located in Japan’s Tohoku region, Miyagi Prefecture boasts the Michelin three-star attraction "Matsushima," the nature-rich "Zao, Funagata, and Kurihime" mountain ranges, the scenic "Sanriku Coast," and healing hot springs such as the historic "Akiu Onsen," "Sakan Onsen," and "Naruko Onsen."

The official establishment of the "Miyagi Prefecture Tourism Information Dispatch Office" in Taiwan marks a three-year initiative. In addition to promoting tourism, the office will also report on the progress of reconstruction efforts in the southern Sanriku region funded by Taiwanese donations following the 311 earthquake. It aims to increase visits to Miyagi via Sendai Airport, boost educational study tours, MICE, and other large-scale incentive travel, with the goal of tripling current tourist numbers in the future.
