Shicheng Village
Destination Introduction
The Shicheng Folk Village is located at the seat of the Shicheng Town Government in Miyun County, at the central section of the county’s western tourism development area, 25 kilometers from downtown Miyun. It borders the Miyun Reservoir to the east and leans against Yunmeng Mountain to the west. The two renowned scenic areas, Taoyuanxiangu Valley Natural Scenic Area and Jiudaowan Natural Scenic Area, form the village’s economic pillars.
Currently, Shicheng Village has 271 households, a population of 650, with 430 people employed, including 162 engaged in folk tourism services across 62 folk households. Among these, 50 households have county-level certification, 24 hold both city and county-level certifications, and the total number of beds available is 655.
Since 1998, leveraging the tourism resources of attractions such as Taoyuanxiangu Valley and Jiudaowan, the village has encouraged farmers to develop folk tourism. Under the leadership of the village Party branch and the village committee, the folk tourism industry has been vigorously promoted, with over 80% of the villagers deriving their income from tourism. In 2001, the village was recognized by the Miyun County Government as a Specialized Folk Tourism Village. In recent years, the growth of folk tourism has become the main driver of the village’s overall economic income. In 2003, the village’s total economic income reached 6.6 million yuan, with 2.48 million yuan from folk tourism, accounting for 37.6% of the total income. The per capita income was 4,345 yuan, and the village hosted 31,000 visitors that year.
Staff engaged in folk tourism in Shicheng Village have all undergone rigorous training. Each household holds business licenses, health certificates, and sanitation permits issued by industrial-commercial and health authorities, and adheres to strict regulations to provide visitors with a pleasant leisure environment.
The development of tourism has brought vitality to Shicheng Village. To better promote tourism, future efforts will continue to focus on greening and beautifying the village, improving environmental management, strengthening folk tourism regulation, upgrading service standards, and investing in infrastructure during the off-season to expand capacity. This will help establish tourism as the leading industry for poverty alleviation and prosperity in Shicheng Village.
Visiting Shicheng Folk Village allows you to enjoy a series of distinctive local tourism activities. In spring, you can go for walks and admire the blooming flowers covering the hillsides, with apricot, peach, and pear blossoms complementing each other. Visitors can also pick a variety of wild vegetables in their natural state. In autumn, guests can visit orchards to harvest fruits such as apples, peaches, plums, apricots, pears, and dates. In winter, you can participate in ice and snow festival events held at Taoyuanxiangu Valley and Heilongtan Valley, sleep on traditional heated kang beds, celebrate Chinese New Year, and set off firecrackers. The village’s farmhouse accommodations are not only clean and scenic but also fully equipped with amenities such as karaoke rooms, barbecue pits, and campfire parties. Listening to the sounds of insects, birds, and frogs while enjoying the cool mountain breeze allows you to leave all worries behind and immerse yourself in nature. Special Note:
Shicheng Village is surrounded by mountains on three sides and water on one. The mountains feature ancient Great Wall ruins from the Northern Qi Dynasty, along with various vegetation, fruit trees, and precious medicinal herbs, suitable for students to collect plant specimens and conduct scientific explorations. The water-facing side borders the Bai River upstream of the Miyun Reservoir, a national first-class drinking water source area. The water remains crystal clear year-round, home to hundreds of species of freshwater fish. The fish and shrimp here are fresh, tender, delicious, and free of any off-flavors, making them premium green food. A stream also runs through the center of the village, maintaining a cool temperature all year. This stream flows down from Yunmeng Mountain, which stands over 1,400 meters above sea level, ensuring a continuous, unpolluted, and abundant water supply. It is an ideal spot for visitors to escape the heat, play in the water, or go fishing.
