Nanshilu Park

Nanshilu Park is situated on the east side of Nanshilu Street in Xicheng District and the west side of the West Second Ring Road. Constructed in 1960, due to rapid urban development and rising public expectations for leisure and entertainment, the park’s existing state could no longer satisfy community needs. In 2001, the Xicheng District Gardening Bureau initiated a comprehensive renovation of Nanshilu Park. The main pathways in the new park are paved with marble, and the park now features plazas, landscaping elements, fitness zones, children’s play areas, along with a complete overhaul of greenery. Additional amenities such as benches, trash bins, street lamps, and irrigation systems were installed. The renovated Nanshilu Park, with its fresh and tidy appearance, has received widespread praise from the public.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and showcase the beautiful, civilized, and harmonious urban environment of Xicheng District, in accordance with the requirements of the District Government’s “2009 Xicheng District Environmental Improvement Task Plan,” the Xicheng District Gardening Bureau commenced renovation work on Nanshilu Park on June 22.

Guided by a people-oriented philosophy, our bureau built a new bicycle parking area to regulate parking order and installed loop gates at the park’s east and west entrances to prevent bicycles from entering the park. We also added wheelchair-accessible ramps to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. Worn-out railings and public facilities were replaced or refurbished, fitness areas were standardized, and surveillance equipment was installed to eliminate safety hazards. To avoid interference with the Second Ring Road pedestrian overpass, we adjusted the location and elevation of the park’s east entrance. At the same time, we planted new trees and seasonal flowers, added landscape stones, and created a new spatial scale for the “Dawn Garden in Early Spring” scenic spot at the east gate. These enhancements have further improved the park’s landscape effect, making this gem on the “Second Ring” green necklace shine even brighter.
