Prince Tao’s Mansion

  Destination Introduction
The Prince Tao’s Mansion is located at No. 27 Liuyin Street, Xicheng District. It has now been designated as a key cultural relic protection site in Xicheng District.

It was originally the residence of Yun County Prince Yuyun, the 15th son of Emperor Kangxi. In the 28th year of the Guangxu reign (1902), Zaitan, the seventh son of Prince Chunxian Yi Xin, was adopted as the heir of Zhong County Prince Yi Xun and inherited the title of Beile (a noble rank). He then moved into the former Yun Wang Mansion, which became the Beile Mansion known as the Prince Tao’s Mansion.

After the liberation, the Prince Tao’s Mansion underwent multiple renovations and reconstructions. However, in recent years, some buildings in the compound showed signs of structural instability, including leaning and cracked gables, damaged roof tiles and eaves, rotten column bases, and completely peeled paint and colored decorations. Some houses were even listed as dangerous structures and had long been out of use.

The existing ancient buildings cover an area of about 1,000 square meters. The complex faces south and has its entrance on the east. It is divided into a central section, an eastern wing, and a western wing. The central section has four courtyards; the eastern wing also includes four courtyards, with the last three forming a traditional three-sided courtyard. The western wing consists only of three rows of buildings in the front and back, with a theater building on the west and a garden on the south. The garden features corridors, pavilions, a flower hall, rockeries, and more. The original horse stables and the open space in front of the garden were rebuilt into the main building of Fu Jen Catholic University. The mansion itself was converted into the boys' division of Fu Jen Affiliated Middle School. In 1952, the Fu Jen Boys' Middle School was renamed Beijing No. 13 Middle School.
