The Sakura Festival at Shirotori Castle in Miyagi Prefecture — A Stunning Blossom Event in Northeastern Japan

Japan’s cherry blossom season is about to begin,Shirotori City in Miyagi Prefecture will also host the “Shirotori Castle Sakura Festival” from April 5 to 30. When the festival arrives, around 300 cherry trees at Shirotori Castle will bloom brilliantly, drawing many tourists to admire the blossoms. At night,Shirotori Castle will also be illuminated until 22:00, lighting up the castle in the night sky,offering a different kind of night cherry blossom beauty compared to the daytime.。

Shirotori Castle in Shirotori City, Miyagi Prefecture, was originally the residence of Katakura Kojūrō, a vassal of the Date clan. It was unfortunately dismantled after the Meiji Restoration, but was rebuilt 120 years later, in 1995 (Heisei 7).The reconstructed main keep and Otemon Gate, built with the dedication of over 300 craftsmen from across Japan using historically accurate methods, hold significant architectural value.Climbing the main keep offers views of the Shirotori cityscape and the majestic mountains of Mount Zao in Miyagi. The adjacent museum displays models of the castle's construction, historical artifacts from the Katakura family, as well as samurai armor, swords, and ancient documents from the Warring States period.
