Former Site of the Qiuxi Reorganization of the Ningdu Uprising Troops
The Former Site of the Qiuxi Reorganization of the Ningdu Uprising Troops is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangxi Province.
The Former Site of the Qiuxi Reorganization of the Ningdu Uprising Troops is located at Beiwu, Qiuxi Village, Hengjiang Town. In November 2006, it was approved and announced as a provincial-level cultural heritage site by the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government.
The site consists of two ancestral halls of the Lai family: the Mingyan Hall of the Lai Family Ancestral Temple and the Zhixu Hall of the Kongliang Ancestral Shrine. The Mingyan Hall was built by Lai Yuanchong during the Song Dynasty’s Zhihe era, facing south and north, with a brick-and-timber structure. It covers an area of 335.36 square meters and consists of a front and rear hall. The Kongliang Ancestral Shrine (Zhixu Hall) was built in the mid-Ming Dynasty, also facing south and north, with a brick-and-timber structure, covering an area of 406.5 square meters. The two buildings are connected from front to back, adjacent on the sides, and separated by an open space 11.5 meters wide in between. Both structures feature flush gable roofs. Thanks to multiple fundraising and renovation efforts by descendants of the Lai family, the buildings are relatively well-preserved and have largely retained their historical appearance.
On December 14, 1931, the original 26th Route Army of the Kuomintang, under the correct guidance of our Party and the leadership of its commanders Zhao Boseng (a member of the Communist Party of China), Dong Zhentang, Ji Zhentong, and Huang Zhongyue, successfully launched the Ningdu Uprising. In accordance with the decisions and arrangements of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission, the uprising troops entered the areas of Hengjiang, Qiuxi, and Longgang in Shicheng on December 17, beginning a two-month reorganization. The reorganization headquarters was stationed at Wubeiling in Qiuxi.
This reorganization was the first bold attempt and successful example in the history of our Party to transform an old army. Through the reorganization, the political and military qualities of the uprising soldiers were significantly improved. They joined the revolutionary tide with renewed vigor, adding a powerful force to the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and strengthening its overall strength. In December 2006, it was designated as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural heritage sites in Jiangxi Province.
