The former site of the Red Fifth Army Corps headquarters is located at the Lai Family Ancestral Hall in Huweikeng, Youlian Village, Hengjiang Town. Built in the mid-Qing Dynasty, it faces east and is constructed with brick, wood, and earth. It features a hanging gable roof, two courtyards and three halls, a width of five bays, two side rooms, and two wing rooms, with a total construction area of over 1,800 square meters.

In December 1931, after the reorganization of the Ningdu Uprising troops, the Red Fifth Army Corps was established, and its headquarters was stationed here. The officers and soldiers of the newly formed Red Fifth Army Corps showed significant improvement in both political and military quality. Under the leadership of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission, they joined the revolutionary tide with a brand-new spirit and became a formidable force of the workers' and peasants' armed forces. The Red Fifth Army Corps achieved numerous military successes in battles such as the assault on Zhangzhou and the fourth and fifth anti-“encirclement and suppression” campaigns in the Central Soviet Area. It became known for its bravery, tenacity, and proficiency in tough and difficult battles. During the Long March, it earned the title of “Iron Flow Rear Guard” through its resolute defense and heroic sacrifices. In January 1932, its steel artillery battalion cooperated with the Fourth Red Army to successfully capture the white stronghold of Hongshi Fort.

The site preserves multiple slogans and cartoons from the Red Army era. Its preservation holds high historical value for the study of the Red Fifth Army Corps and the revolutionary history of the Soviet Area. In March 2018, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of cultural relic protection units of Jiangxi Province (Document No. [2018]4 issued by the Jiangxi Provincial Government).
