The Former Headquarters of the Red Third Army Corps in Pingshan is located in Jingmianpai Group, Pingshan Village, Pingshan Town. Built during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, it is a traditional Hakka-style residential building with an interior courtyard. It faces east and is situated west, constructed with brick, wood, and earth, featuring a flush gable roof. The building is 69.4 meters wide, 22 meters deep, covering a site area of 1,526.8 square meters, with a floor space of 2,700 square meters.

From late August to mid-October 1934, the Red Third Army Corps was ordered to defend northern Shicheng in the Central Soviet Area, engaging in brave and tenacious battles against enemy forces that invaded the Central Soviet Area. This is historically known as the “Shicheng Defensive Battle.” To delay the enemy’s advance toward the central region of the Central Soviet Area, ensure the safe assembly and strategic relocation of the central authorities and the main forces of the Red Army, and buy time, the Red Third Army Corps, following orders from the Central Revolutionary Military Commission, set up three defensive lines within a depth of about fifty li north of Shicheng and launched the Shicheng Defensive Battle. The entire battle was extremely fierce. The Red Army soldiers fought valiantly, while the Nationalist troops suffered heavy casualties. The battle dealt a heavy blow to the enemy’s arrogance and successfully concluded on October 7. The Red Third Army Corps made significant contributions to the victory of the Shicheng Defensive Battle. After the battle ended on October 7, 1934, the Red Third Army Corps was ordered to withdraw and regroup for rest and reorganization in the Guanxia and Pingshan areas, with its headquarters stationed in the Chen family residence in Jingmianpai, Pingshan.

Many Red Army slogans have been preserved at the site. Their preservation holds important historical value for the study of the Shicheng Defensive Battle, the Red Third Army Corps, and the revolutionary history of the Soviet Area. In March 2018, it was announced as part of the sixth batch of cultural relic protection units of Jiangxi Province (Gan Fu Fa [2018] No. 4).

Pingshan Town: Pingshan Town is located in the southwestern part of Shicheng County, approximately 17 kilometers from the county seat. It borders Zhukeng Township to the east, Hengjiang Town, Longgang Township, and Dayou Township to the south, neighbors Gucun Township of Ningdu County to the west, and is adjacent to Qinqjiang Town to the north. The Qinqiang River runs from north to south through the entire town. The terrain is long and narrow, sloping from high in the north to low in the south, with a flat central area. It stretches 17 kilometers from north to south and 11 kilometers from east to west, covering a total area of 119.58 square kilometers. The highest point is Gaodazi in Yebai Village, with an elevation of 559.6 meters, while the lowest point is Qiukou Village in the south, at an elevation of 185 meters.
