The largest state-owned deer farm in East China — Hanshan County’s Taihu Mountain Deer Farm is located on the northern bank of the lower Yangtze River, by Chaohu Lake, at the southern foot of the national forest park, Taihu Mountain. Established in 1971, the farm spans 1,000 mu, including 500 mu of planted rare medicinal herbs and 300 mu of nursery gardens. It houses 2,000 sika and red deer, producing 300 fawns annually, and has fixed assets worth 21 million yuan.

A range of health-promoting deer products have been developed, such as deer antler slices, deer antler blood wine, ginseng-deer wine, deer placenta paste, and deer penis capsules. The farm has been honored by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as an “Advanced Collective in Medicinal Material Production” and recognized as a “Leading Enterprise in Agricultural Industrialization in the Chaohu Region.”

In recent years, leveraging the farm’s beautiful forests and picturesque landscapes, eco-tourism centered around deer farming has been developed. A series of natural and cultural attractions have been opened to the public, including the Herbal Garden, Heart-Cleansing Stream, Thundering Spring, Deer Viewing Platform, Special Deer Garden, and Love Tree, making Taihu Mountain Deer Farm a comprehensive economic entity integrating planting, breeding, processing, and tourism.
