Carvings in Huayang Cave

The carvings in Huayang Cave are a cultural relic protection unit of Anhui Province.

The carvings in Huayang Cave are located within Huayang Cave on Mount Baochan in Huanfeng Town, Hanshan County, dating from the Northern Song Dynasty to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In 1054, Wang Anshi visited Huayang Cave on Mount Baochan and wrote the timeless essay “Record of a Visit to Mount Baochan.” Wang Anshi, a renowned statesman, thinker, and literary figure of the Northern Song Dynasty, with the courtesy name Jiepu, pseudonym Banshan, was posthumously titled Duke of Shu and granted the posthumous name “Wen.” He was from Linchuan, Jiangxi. Inside the cave are several stone carvings from the Xining period of the Northern Song Dynasty as well as from the Ming and Qing periods, adding to the cave’s classic and elegant charm.

Protected area: The main site covers an area of 25 square meters. The protected area extends 10 meters outward from the entrance of Huayang Cave, covering a total area of 650 square meters.

Construction control zone: The area 50 meters beyond the protected zone, covering a total area of 12,089 square meters.
