Board a small cruise boat and glide across the blue waters of the Songlan Mountain sea area for 15 minutes. Ahead lies a green islet dotted with exquisitely designed glass-tiled holiday villas — this is the headquarters of the Southern Hunting Center, also known as Yangyu Mountain, a small island referred to by local fishermen.

A few years ago, the Southern Company developed nine uninhabited islands in the Songlan Mountain sea area of Xiangshan County, releasing tens of thousands of wild boars, wild ducks, and pheasants, which attracted a large number of tourists. The islands instantly burst with vitality.

The Southern Hunting Center is divided into a leisure and sightseeing area and a hunting area. The sightseeing area features secluded trails, dense shrubs, swaying wildflowers, and fruit trees covering the slopes. At the top of the Sabai Tree Ridge is a newly built awning, beneath which sit freshly painted dining tables offering delicious game meat with excellent color, aroma, and flavor. After trying the braised wild boar here, you might never want to eat any other meat again. Hunting equipment such as rifles, ammunition, and fishing rods are readily available. Rifles come in both single-barrel and double-barrel types, with specially made cartridges designed for hunting wild boars — an experience that’s uniquely fun.

Accompanied by professional hunters from the center, visitors enter the main gate of the hunting area, where large wild boar hoof prints are visible everywhere. By following the fresh tracks, locating a wild boar den is absolutely no problem. The hunting area has no tall shrubs, and low thorny bushes have been either cut down or burned, providing a clear and open field of vision that greatly increases the success rate of hunting.

Various kinds of seashells inhabit the rocks along the island’s coastline. During low tide, visitors can follow the gaps between the rocks to collect clams and shells; during high tide, when there's a greater drop in water level, the catch is even more abundant.

Ebb tide is always followed by flood tide. During slack tide, simply sit leisurely at the fishing platform with a rod in hand, facing the vast ocean, breathing in the natural essence, and fully concentrating on the fishing line. It's a great way to relax, cultivate your mood, and practice breathing techniques. For those aiming to catch bigger fish, arrangements can be made with the hunting center to borrow a boat for sea fishing, offering a taste of life as a fisherman.

On the southeastern side of the island lies a Centipede Cave, deep and cool. The hunting center has turned it into a teahouse. In the peak of summer, after tiring from fishing or hunting, it’s a perfect spot to enjoy tea, rest, and exchange tips and experiences about fishing and hunting.

The slopes of the leisure and sightseeing area are planted with various fruits and melons. The purplish-red bayberries are especially eye-catching and available for visitors to freely pick and enjoy. Orange trees, loquat trees, and chestnut trees are planted all over the hills, while watermelon, golden melon, and muskmelon vines densely sprawl across the flat earthen slopes, with their ripe fruits lying among the grass, emitting enticing aromas. Visitors call it the “Island Fruit and Flower Mountain.”
