As we bid farewell to 2017, the much-anticipated New Year’s Eve fireworks are about to light up the sky too. When it comes to the best spot to watch the Taipei 101 fireworks, many people choose Taipei’s Elephant Mountain. Whether you’re a photography enthusiast or just an average person, you’ll likely head up the mountain early on that day to secure your spot.To help the public catch the best views of the longest fireworks show in 2018 history, the Taipei City Government’s Public Works Department, Bureau of Urban Development has recommended six fireworks viewing spots on Elephant Mountain, with their elevated vantage points guaranteeing a breathtaking view of the spectacular display.

The Bureau of Urban Development said that the Elephant Mountain Trail, located near the Elephant Mountain Station on the Taipei Metro Tamsui-Xinyi Line, is the top choice for both domestic and international netizens looking to shoot panoramic views of Taipei and Taipei 101 from high ground, as well as the perfect spot to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks and light show.Starting from the entrance at Lingyun Temple, you can reach the Photographer’s Platform, the Six Boulders, and the Photography Platform. The entrance via the City Therapy Trail leads to the Fireworks Platform, while Yongchun Gang Park provides access to the Yongchun Gang Platform and Chaoran Pavilion.

In 2017 (the 106th year of the Republic of China), the Bureau of Urban Development replaced the old guardrails with new parent-child handrail fences featuring two levels of hand support, making hiking more convenient. They also added eight Elephant Mountain-themed benches to enhance resting areas and add fun. The Bureau also suggests that those planning to visit Elephant Mountain but unfamiliar with the route can take the Tamsui-Xinyi Line to Exit 2 of Elephant Mountain Station. Upon exiting the station, you will see trail guidance signs showing the way to the hiking entrance.
