Dongmen Lighthouse

Dongmen Lighthouse is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Dongmen Lighthouse is located southeast of Dongmen Island in Shipu Town, Xiangshan County. It was funded and built in 1915 by brothers Ren Xiaohé and Ren Xiaofu (known as the "Two Difficult Gentlemen"), but was later destroyed by fire. In 1919, the Ren brothers, together with Ji Chuanchang from Yanchang and others, raised funds to rebuild it. The lighthouse consists of a base, a main structure, and a lantern room. The base is built with strip stones; the main structure has three levels, is cylindrical in shape, and is constructed by piecing together stone blocks. It has an inner diameter of 2.13 meters, an outer diameter of 3.7 meters, and a height of 5.44 meters. Inside, there is a spiral staircase leading to the top; the lantern room at the top is domed, standing 2.74 meters high, with a window sill made of eight stone slabs and windows fitted with glass. There is an outdoor corridor, and outside the corridor is an iron railing. Dongmen Lighthouse is generally well-preserved and serves as an important maritime navigation facility. Together with Beiyushan Lighthouse, it holds significant value for the study of China’s modern science, technology, and maritime history.
