Golden Rooster Mountain Fort

Golden Rooster Mountain Fort is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Heritage Site.

Golden Rooster Mountain Fort is situated atop Golden Rooster Mountain, in front of Golden Rooster Village in Jinxing.

Research indicates that the fort was constructed during the Qing Dynasty. According to the Republican-era Xiangshan County Annals, Golden Rooster Mountain hosted a mountain pass, manned by one official and thirty soldiers. The fort faces Shipo Port to the southeast, with Gaotang Island lying across the harbor, strategically commanding the Sankoumen sea route. The fort’s foundation is rectangular, covering an area of approximately 118 m². The main body is trapezoidal, standing 3.8 m high, with a base width of 8.5 m and a top width of 7.6 m on the northeast and southwest sides, and a base length of 13.85 m and a top length of 13.5 m on the northwest and southeast sides. All four sides are constructed from ashlar stones, stacked in 19 layers with alternating horizontal and vertical courses. The stones are 18 cm thick, 28 cm wide, and vary in length from 60 cm to 225 cm. This fort offers valuable physical insight into military installations of the Qing Dynasty.

It was designated as a sixth batch Provincial Cultural Heritage Site in January 2011.
