Chen'ao Celadon Kiln Site

The Chen'ao Celadon Kiln Site is a cultural heritage site protected by Xiangshan County.

The kiln site is located at the foot of Huangdashan Mountain in Chen'ao, Dongta Village, Huangbi'ao. The two kilns stand side by side, with their fronts facing west toward Xiangshan Harbor and their backs extending uphill to the east. Each kiln is approximately fifty meters long and five meters wide. To the south of the two kilns lies a circular workshop.

Historical records indicate that this kiln had significant influence at the time. The celadon ware it produced features simple craftsmanship and a lustrous color, making it one of the renowned Yue Kiln sites during China’s Tang Dynasty. In October 1974, experts from the National Museum of Chinese History, the Palace Museum, and the Provincial Cultural Relics Management Committee conducted on-site research and confirmed that the kiln was built in the early Tang Dynasty.

Part of the kiln site was originally exposed, and local residents often unearthed fragments of celadon ware. In recent years, due to the development of tea production, the kiln remains have been buried underground but remain undamaged.
