Former Residence and Tomb of Chen Hanzhang
The former residence and tomb of Chen Hanzhang are protected as provincial cultural relics units in Zhejiang Province.
The former residence of Chen Hanzhang is located within an ancient residential complex in the northwest part of Dongchen Village, Dongchen Township, Xiangshan County. In 2007, it was listed as a sixth-batch county-level cultural relics protection unit. The residence includes the Xuepu Hall and Zhuixue Hall, with the overall layout well preserved. Xuepu Hall now serves as an exhibition memorial for historical materials related to Mr. Chen Hanzhang.
The tomb of Chen Hanzhang is situated at the northern foot of Shanjibei, near the well of Muling Cave, Dongchen Village, Dongchen Township, Xiangshan County. Originally a joint burial tomb for Chen Hanzhang and his wives and concubines, it had four chambers. In the late 1940s, the tomb chambers were excavated and later suffered several instances of damage. The current tomb was rebuilt in 1983 with funding from the county government. It faces south and is accessed by steps built along the southern slope of the Dan Shi Highway. The tomb chamber is enclosed by stone slabs, measuring 4 meters in both length and width, and 1.2 meters in height. At the center stands a tombstone inscribed with “Tomb of Mr. Chen Hanzhang,” written by Xu Deheng, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. A memorial pavilion was erected in 1990.
The former residence and tomb of Chen Hanzhang were designated as a seventh-batch provincial-level cultural relics protection unit by the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province in January 2017.
