Martyr He Weisheng's Tomb

Martyr He Weisheng's Tomb is a cultural relic protection unit of Xiangshan County and a classic red tourism site.

Martyr He Weisheng (1902–1926), nickname Fengbao, courtesy name Gangfeng, alias Yinong, was a native of Haidun Village in this county. In 1920, he went to Shanghai to pursue his studies and joined the Communist Party of China at Shanghai University in 1924. That winter, he returned home and successively recruited Wang Jiamo, Yang Bai, Fan Chuanseng, and Zhao Wenguang as CPC members, establishing a Party branch. He subsequently served as a member of the provisional committee leadership at "Shanghai University" and as the Secretary of the Zhabei District Committee of Shanghai. In the early stages of the Northern Expedition, he was appointed Secretary of the CPC Hangzhou Local Committee and strategized to prompt Zhejiang Provincial Governor Xia Chao to declare independence. On November 3, 1926, he was arrested at Shixue Hotel on Hangzhou Railway Station, and on the 13th, he was executed at Meidong Drill Ground outside Qingbo Gate. His remains were transported back by his maternal uncle for burial. The martyr is buried together with his father and grandfather; the grandfather is in the center, the father is on the west, and the martyr is on the east. The tombstone inscription reads: “Tomb of the Martyred Gentleman He Weisheng, Graduate of Shanghai University, and His Wife Madam Yao.”

He Weisheng was born in December 1902 into a family of three generations of single offspring and two generations of widows in Haidun Village, Xianxiang Township, Xiangshan County, Zhejiang Province. He was a posthumous child, cherished as the apple of his grandmother’s and mother’s eyes. After attending a private school in the village for two years, he followed his mother to Jinghua Primary School in Dancheng, and graduated from the county high school in 1918.
