Jinshan Academy

Jinshan Academy is a cultural heritage site protected by Xiangshan County.

The academy was originally established as the Xu Family Chongde Charity School in the 18th year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1828), founded by the Xu brothers. By the 13th year of the Tongzhi reign (1874), it had fallen into decline. Magistrate Yang Diancai consulted with the descendants of the Xu family and reported to higher authorities to renovate the charity school, renaming it “Jinshan Academy.” During the Republican era, it was renamed “Jingye Advanced Primary School.” After the liberation, it was officially named “Shipu Primary School.” The renowned historian Wu Han once studied here with his father. The existing structures of Jinshan Academy include the main building of “Jingye Hall” and a five-bay rear building. In 2002, it was restored according to the historical architectural styles of the Daoguang and Tongzhi periods. The “Shipu Historical and Cultural Reserve Protection Plan” designated the academy as the “Shipu Education History Exhibition Hall.”
