The Shenjiayang Memorial Archway

The Shenjiayang Memorial Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Xiangshan County.

The Shenjiayang Memorial Archway is located in Shenjiayang, Xianxiang Town, Xiangshan County. Built in the 45th year of the Qianlong reign during the Qing Dynasty (1780), it is an honorary memorial archway. Constructed of stone with a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof, it has a total width of 5.4 meters. The main gate is 5.1 meters high and 2.1 meters wide; the side gates are 3.7 meters high and 1.25 meters wide. The Imperial Edict stele is inscribed with the characters “Imperial Edict.” The horizontal beams are engraved with “Jade Pool and Snow.” It is dedicated to “Wang Shi, the late wife of the former Confucian scholar Shen Zaijin.” The back features two inscribed panels: “Bright Scenery” and “Festive Knight.” Both the front and back are adorned with intricate carvings of animals, clouds, and flowers. This archway is one of only three surviving out of the 73 recorded in the county annals, and it exhibits a high level of craftsmanship. On October 30, 2007, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of Xiangshan County-level cultural relic protection units.
