Xiangshan County

Xiangshan County is under the jurisdiction of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, China. It is located on the shores of the East China Sea, in the southern edge of the Yangtze River Delta region and along the eastern coast of Zhejiang Province, situated between Xiangshan Harbor and Sanmen Bay. The county is surrounded by sea on three sides and embraced by two harbors. Established in the second year of the Shenlong era of the Tang Dynasty (706 AD), it was named Xiangshan ("Elephant Mountain") due to a mountain northwest of the county town that resembles a crouching elephant. It comprises the eastern part of the Xiangshan Peninsula and 608 islands and reefs along the coast, covering a land area of 1,175 square kilometers and a sea area of 5,350 square kilometers, with a coastline stretching 800 kilometers — one-sixth of Zhejiang Province’s total coastline. The county administers 10 towns, 5 townships, and 3 subdistricts, and has a registered population of 503,300.
