Gongyu Beacon Tower

Gongyu Beacon Tower is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Gongyu Beacon Tower is located on the small hilltop of Zhoujiashan, east of Jiaoxi Subdistrict in Xiangshan County.

This tower was identified as a Qing Dynasty structure during a 1999 survey. It was one of the beacon towers under the jurisdiction of Jiaoxi, forming a strategic angle with another now-lost beacon tower to the west of the town, established for defense against Japanese pirates and for sending warning signals. The structure remains largely intact today, situated against the mountain and facing the sea, offering a broad view. The base is nearly square, covering an area of about 100 square meters. The body of the tower is trapezoidal, built with rough stones on all four sides and filled with earth inside. The tower is 5.6 meters high; the bottom width on the east and west sides is 10 meters each, with the top width at 5.9 meters each, while the bottom width on the north and south sides is 10.6 meters each, with the top width at 6.3 meters each. The middle of the tower top is slightly concave, and no other relics have been found. It was designated as a sixth batch provincial-level cultural relics protection unit in January 2011.
