God of Wealth Bay was formerly called Turning Boat Bay, as the water system of Wuzhen is rather unique, forming a “cross” shape

, and the river channels become narrower toward the entrance of the Scenic Area, making it difficult for boats to turn around. Therefore, the locals dug ponds and canals here to create a spot where boats could turn. At the same time, to distinguish it from other Turning Boat Bays, it was named God of Wealth Bay after the nearby God of Wealth Hall.

Inside the God of Wealth Hall stands a life-sized statue of the God of Wealth, who is the Eastern Route God of Wealth of Wuzhen, originally the deity of Prime Minister Bi Gan. This is a special God of Wealth, as he died after tearing out his own heart. Later generations praised him for having no selfishness in his heart, and used this to teach people to seek wealth through righteousness and benevolence, without excessive greed or self-interest.

Every year on the fifth day of the first lunar month, local residents of Wuzhen come to the front of the God of Wealth Hall to burn incense and pray for blessings.

The location of Wuzhen’s Eastern Route God of Wealth was once a marketplace, but now it houses leisure venues such as Xiangshan Tang Pharmacy, God of Wealth Hall, Fengyuan Restaurant, and God of Wealth Bay Tea House. It has become a new gathering center for local residents of the ancient town.
