Winter Flower Viewing Fun: A Complete Guide to 7 Flower Fields Across Taiwan

Recently, many flowers have come into bloom, and flower field festivals are popping up all over the place. Still not sure where to go for some flower gazing? ETtoday EBC Travel Cloud has rounded up 6 beautiful flower fields across Taiwan—find some time soon and gather your friends and family for a floral adventure together.

1. Yilan

The Yilan Sanchong Township Flower Field Balloon Carnival continues last year’s craze, creating a 120-hectare landscape flower field. It also features a balloon mascot nearly two stories tall — the Rocking Locko Horse — along with a 4.5-meter-tall cute monkey balloon, both set amid vast fields of golden cosmos flowers.

2. Huadong (Hualien & Taitung)

The “2016 Huadong Flower Field Season” in the Huadong Valley features beautiful flower fields along Provincial Highways 9 and 11. Among them, the Shoufeng Station in Hualien recently opened, with a scenic flower field area of about 40 hectares, divided into a two-acre thematic canvas area, an oilseed rape flower landscape field, and an elaborate cosmos flower field. The thematic canvas area is planted with seasonal blooms such as begonias, African impatiens, salvia, verbena, marigolds, poinsettias, cosmos sulphureus, and poinsettias, forming zodiac monkey patterns, fiery trees and silver flowers, as well as windmill-shaped land art. The Taitung Chihshang Flower Field is also open, with the flowering period expected to last until the Lunar New Year holiday.

3. Hualien

Located at the foot of the Central Mountain Range, the Guofu Wellness Park was jointly developed by the Hualien City Government and the local farmers’ association, creating a sprawling 3-hectare floral carpet just a 15-minute drive from downtown Hualien. It includes seasonal flowers such as begonias, peacock daisies, and salvia, along with currently blooming oilseed rape, cosmos, and zinnias. This year, additional land allocated by the Ministry of National Defense has expanded the flower field area by about 0.4 hectares, making the entire Guofu Wellness Park even more spectacular.

Transportation Info: From Hualien Railway Station, head along Zhongshan Road toward Dexing Gymnasium. After crossing Guofu Bridge, turn right onto the second road (Huajiu Township Road), and the flower field will be on your right about 50 meters ahead.

4. Taipei City

The first-ever flower fields in the Shizih area are located within Bailin Left Bank Riverside Park, a newly planned flower-viewing attraction completed in mid-December this year. Over 50,000 seasonal blooms are arranged into a beautiful floral carpet, with the viewing period lasting until the end of January next year.

5. New Taipei City

The New Taipei City Government has planted approximately 60,000 seasonal plants in the nursery area beside the embankment park of Yonghe District, covering an area of about 1,300 square meters. The flowers include four varieties—dianthus, crabapple (red, peach, and pink), salvia, and scarlet sage—which create a vibrant floral carpet with a rich diversity of bright colors. The flower season will continue through the Lunar New Year.

6. Taichung

The Longjing District Farmers' Association has created a rainbow flower field comparable to Hokkaido, featuring not only vibrant blooms of rapeseed, cosmos, and cosmos sulphureus but also numerous art installations that present a diverse artistic countryside landscape.

7. Yunlin

Although the Lunar New Year holiday hasn’t arrived yet, the flower fields in Hasaheli, Tongtong Township, Yunlin County have already quietly bloomed, attracting many visitors over the New Year’s Day holiday. After the official opening of the “Tongtong Township Hasaheli Flower Fields Festival” on the 9th, the peak blooming period will continue until the 24th, with the flower fields accompanying visitors all the way to the Lunar New Year holiday.

How to get there on your own: Take a train to “Douliu Station” and then transfer to a local bus directly to Haisha Li or Tongxiang.
