Wuzhen Jiangnan Hundred Beds Museum (Zhao Family Hall)
China's first museum dedicated to collecting and exhibiting ancient Jiangnan beds, also known as Zhao Family Hall, covers an area of over 1,200 square meters and houses dozens of fine ancient Jiangnan beds from the Ming, Qing, and modern periods. In
troduction
The Qing-era Babu Qiangong Bed in the second exhibition hall is a masterpiece of wood-carved beds and is hailed as the "museum’s prized bed." Made of boxwood, it measures 217 cm in length, 366 cm in depth, and 292 cm in height, featuring three stacked sections. This bed took three years to carve and involved over a thousand man-days of work, hence its name.
Additionally, the first exhibition hall displays items such as the Ming Dynasty Horse-Hoof Leg Large Brush-Tube Style Canopy Bed. These pieces feature a wooden frame construction, with simple and unadorned designs, balanced proportions, and an emphasis on the linear forms of the furniture, reflecting a lively artistic style. They also make full use of the color and grain characteristics of hardwood, with minimal carving and mostly natural wood finishes, creating a naturally harmonious aesthetic.
