Tongxiang Redwood Village Scenic Area
The Tongxiang Redwood Village Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.
The Redwood Village (China) Tourist Scenic Area is located in Tongxiang on the Hangjiahu Plain, known as the "Land of Fish and Rice and the Home of Silk." It is situated in Yangyuan Village, Longxiang Subdistrict, Tongxiang City. Boasting an exceptionally prime location, it lies to the south of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, north of Zongyang Road in Longxiang Subdistrict, east of Jinniutang, and west of the uniquely picturesque Jiangnan water town-style fields and villages. The scenic area gets its name from the abundance of yew trees—known as the "green pandas"—planted throughout. It blends cultural sightseeing, eco-agritainment, science education, leisure wellness, specialty shops, and water town vacations into one. Supporting facilities include the former residence of Mr. Yangyuan, the yew tree garden, four eco-agricultural parks, a waterside meeting room, a music-themed restaurant, Huizhou-style guest rooms, farm experience activities, and a specialty shopping center. The scenic area is currently a national 3A-level attraction and is recognized as a provincial-level agritainment destination as well as a "Leisure and Sightseeing Tourism Base" in Jiaxing City.
Here, the states of Wu and Yue once battled, General Zongyang once died resisting Japanese pirates, Mr. Yangyuan once authored the "Supplement to Agricultural Book," and Emperor Qianlong once pointed at mulberry trees and inquired about silkworms... The thousand-year-old Grand Canal widens and slows here before joining the town of Wuzhen, while Jinniutang, flowing from the ancient town of Lutou, fully reveals its timeless grace and historic charm.
The scenic area is covered with yew trees. There is also a yew tree garden within a garden. Yew, also known as taxus or red pine cedar, is an ancient tree species left over from the Quaternary Ice Age, and China has listed it as a first-class rare and endangered protected plant. The medicinal value of yew is mainly reflected in its extract—paclitaxel—which has outstanding efficacy against various advanced cancers and is known as the "last line of defense in cancer treatment." Yew is also called the "tree of health" because it is the only plant that releases oxygen 24 hours a day. Potted plants made from yew trees are currently very expensive on the market. The yew trees in the scenic area have all been transplanted on a large scale from remote mountainous areas, not the commonly seen "fast-growing method" cultivated ones on the market. Enjoying a bit of "forest bathing" here is better than several other types of leisure and wellness activities.
The Four Gardens (peach orchard, pear orchard, vegetable garden, fruit orchard) and One Farm (native chicken and duck farm). The Redwood Village Tourist Scenic Area has cooperated with the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences to develop an organic agriculture base. Since the first planting, no chemical pesticides have ever been used. The native chickens and ducks and other farm animals are also purely ecologically raised. Wear a straw raincoat, carry a hoe, farm for fun, and live self-sufficiently. When tired, lie in the fields; when thirsty, pick a fruit that hasn’t been sprayed with pesticides; when playful, step on a waterwheel, fish in the muddy water, try a broken bow, or tease the chickens and ducks; when hungry, enjoy a big meal of secret-recipe farmhouse dishes on the waterside.
The "Move Forward Bravely, Compete with Water" outdoor adventure base has always been a dream destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts, especially a paradise for adventure training participants and a sports base for school students. The Redwood Village Scenic Area’s adventure training base is currently the largest outdoor adventure base in East China. Classic activities such as rock climbing, water battles, and CS field combat are great exercises for office workers to build their bodies and temper their willpower, and even better projects for corporate and institutional groups to enhance teamwork and build group culture.
Forest BBQ and Picnic—The Redwood Village Forest BBQ and Picnic area is located by the canal and in the forest, enjoying the beautiful scenery of Jinniu and Matang, and wandering in the riverside green lungs. It has the largest site scale in northern Zhejiang and can accommodate 400 people for barbecues and outdoor cooking at the same time.
