• This ancient canal, flowing for thousands of years. Climb the White Lotus Pagoda to enjoy the beautiful scenery on both banks.
Attraction Introduction
The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal flows to the end of Xizha in Wuzhen, brushing past the ancient town. The banks of this section of the canal are expansive, and while the scenery may not be breathtaking, it exudes a sense of history. The ancient pagoda in the White Lotus Pagoda Temple of Xizha offers an excellent vantage point to overlook the canal scenery — don’t miss the chance to climb the tower for the view.
This man-made canal, excavated during the Sui Dynasty, still serves shipping purposes to this day. Occasionally, cargo boats can be seen slowly making their way along the water, offering a faint glimpse into the prosperity this ancient river once enjoyed a thousand years ago.
