Wuzhen Nan栅

• An undeveloped gem of Wuzhen, take a stroll to experience the raw beauty of an ancient Jiangnan village.

Attraction Introduction

Nan栅 is next to Dong栅 and is an area that has not yet been turned into a tourist site. The simple, narrow lanes are filled with old buildings and shops with wooden doors and panels, and most of the people living here are still local residents. The town’s old houses, streets, and bridges remain in their original state, making it a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts.

Nan栅 is generally not included in tour group itineraries and has almost no commercial atmosphere. Prices are also relatively cheaper compared to Dong栅 and Xi栅, and its charm lies in its originality. The architecture here is relatively well-preserved, with some notable structures including the brick-carved gate tower of Zhang Tongsheng’s Residence and the old theater stage, where you can sometimes catch local traditional opera performances. Many local residents along the street have opened small shops selling local handicrafts, and the steaming local snacks found in the alleys are also part of the scenery.

1. The old streets of Nan栅 are not long, so walking and taking photos along the way is the best way to enjoy it.
