Zhu Family’s Old House in Nanzha, Wuzhen
Zhu Family’s Old House in Nanzha, Wuzhen is a relatively well-preserved building from the late Qing Dynasty. Having withstood a century of trials and witnessed the rise and fall of the Zhu family, the house is still inhabited by descendants of the Zhu family.
For just one yuan, visitors can freely explore the premises. The owners will recount the history of the old house and even assist you in choosing the best photo angles or take a family portrait for you.
According to the owners, the “Zhu Henry Dye Workshop” once operated here and was quite famous in its time, making the Zhu family one of the two wealthiest households in Nanzha, Wuzhen. As a result, the house has an especially dignified appearance. Upon entering the gate, you can see the golden signboard of “Zhu Henry Dye Workshop.” The owners explain that during the Cultural Revolution, the signboard was split in half, and the gold leaf on one half was scraped off.
